The Intent to Apply for Biennium Grants Fical Year 2022 & 2023 will open on Monday, January 4, 2021 at 8:00am and close Monday, March 1, 2021 at 11:59pm

Applications for Biennium Grants Fiscal Year 2022 will open on Monday, February 1, 2021 at 8:00am and close Wednesday, March 30, 2021 at 11:59pm 
Applications for Biennium Grants Fiscal Year 2023 will open on Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at 8:00am and close Sunday, October 31, 2021 at 11:59pm

*Due to the on-going effects of COVID-19, the application period for Fiscal Year 2023 has been postponed until September 2021 to provide organizations time to assess their operations and project planning. The application period will not affect the timing of the grant cycle. 

PURPOSE OF BIENNIUM GRANTS
The Hawai‘i State Foundation on Culture and the Arts (SFCA) provides public funds through Biennium Grants to support projects designed to promote, perpetuate and preserve culture and the arts in Hawai'i.

The legal provisions of Biennium Grants are in Sections 9-11 through 9-18 of the Hawai‘i Revised Statutes. The Grants budget is contingent on the State fiscal biennium and appropriations from the Hawai‘i State Legislature. Grants are subject to available funding.


Biennium Grant requests are in the amount of $5,000, $10,000 or $15,000.

Grant Categories:  Heritage/Preservation, Community Arts (Community Arts, Community Development, Arts & Healing), Arts Education, and Presentation/Performing Arts.

In response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, project activities presented in an online/virtual and/or broadcast television format are acceptable.

ABOUT THE BIENNIUM GRANTS PROCESS
The Biennium Grants are awarded for a two-year period. Organizations may apply to FY2022 | YEAR ONE and/or FY2023 | YEAR TWO. During the application period, all eligible applications received by the application deadline are considered. Grants Panels review the eligible applications and submit their recommendations. The SFCA Board of Commissioners has final approval of the recommendations.

Applicants are subject to meeting Chapter 9 eligibility requirements and policies established by the SFCA.


Listed Below Are Application Requirements:
  • Non-profit Organization, 501(c)3 exempt from federal income tax by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
  • Applicant must have at least one (1) year of experience with project to request grant support.
  • Only one (1) application per applicant grant cycle.
  • Application must be entirely completed and submitted via the GO Smart online application system. No applications will be accepted by email or hard copy.
  • Project must take place in the State of Hawai`i.
  • FY2022 | YEAR ONE: Implementation period is July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2022
  • FY2023 | YEAR TWO: Implementation period is July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2023
